DIRECTOR’S REPORT, MARCH 2009

·         Upcoming

o        INDOOR GUARD PERFORMANCE AT THE WINTER GUARD INTERNATIOAL POWER REGIONAL @ SOUTH BRUNSWICK HS in Monmouth Junction, NJ on Saturday & Sunday, March 21 & 22

§         Saturday, 3/21 Prelims Performance at 10:16am

§         Tickets are $15 for Saturday, $18 for Sunday & $26 for Combo Package

§         If we qualify for Finals, performance will be Sunday, 3/22 between 9:00-10:30am

§         This is the first-ever RV Guard perform at a WGI event

§         We want as many people in the “RV FANS” section as we can get. 

o        MIDDLE SCHOOL PERFORMANCES for RV JAZZ and RV PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

§         April 2nd

§         Times still be worked out.  2-3 performances during the school day

§         We will be in need an equipment trailer & one or two helpful parents J

§         More details to come soon.

o        SPRING INSTRUMENTAL CONCERT

§         Thursday, May 14th @ 7:00pm; RVRHS PAC

§         General Admission - $4.00

o        MEMORIAL DAY PARADE

§         Rehearsals will be May 18 & 20, 6-8pm

§         Parade is Monday, May 25 in Lumberton

§         All RVMB members full expected to be present

·         Instrumental Music

o        Symphony Orchestra, TUESDAYS, 2:45-4:30

§         Things are going very well

§         We can still use some brass players and one or two more percussionists

o        Jazz Ensemble, THURSDAYS, 2:45-5:00

§         A young group this year but eager to learn & make their mark.  VERY EXCITING!

o        Concert Percussion Ensemble, MONDAYS, 2:45-4:30

§         MANY students this year

 

·         Indoor Activities

o        A VERY special THANK YOU to Mary Keller and the First Baptist Church in Eastampton for providing our Indoor Guard additional practice space as things here at RV are tightening up.  As of right now, Monday practices will convene here.  The church is located on Woodlane Road. 

o        WEEKEND IN WILDWOOD

§         Registration is complete

§         Payments are being received.

·         First payment extended to Wednesday, 3/11

§         Same cost as last year - $250.00

§         Fundraising opportunities have been abundant throughout the season

§         Schedule & Trip handbook will be out soon

o        CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW NIGHT – TO BE ANNOUNCED in Late April

 

·         MARCHING BAND

o        Big Update went out for 09-10 members

o        Some needs:

§         Brass players!  Woodwind instrumentalists have been invited to learn brass for the Fall.  It’s not a permanent switch...just a temporary one to getting the band truly balanced

§         COLOR GUARD.  I am open to ideas to aid with recruitment.  Please send me your creative ideas J

o        Memorial Day Parade – May 26

§         Rehearsals – 5/20 & 5/22, 6-8pm

o        Reminder: School will only be funding 5 competitions.  Because of this, there will be an additional fee of about $40-$60 to attend additional shows. 

o        We are attending NATIONALS again…but only as a day trip 11/7 or 11/8

§         Proposal will be submitted this month

§         Washington DC & Baltimore sightseeing will be part of the trip!

o        First Draft of Summer/Fall 2009 calendar will be mailed out for post on the website

o        2009-2010 SENIORS are STRONGLY encouraged to audition for the 2010 US Army All-American Marching Band.  Audition information will be forwarded shortly.  Until then, visit www.menc.org for more information!
