Master
No one said it'd be easy,
but trust me when I say it will be worth it.
You Know You're Addicted to Color Guard If...
1. You walk in step to all music
2. You have difficulty counting past 8
3. You can manage going a distance of 2 feet in 24 counts without getting there a count early
4. You carry around electrical tape
5. You can fold the floor faster than your own laundry
6. You've named your equipment
7. Being less than 10 minutes early is late
8. You step on the same foot twice so that you are walking in time with the person next to you in the hall
9. You know that 1 really means 10 in the phrase "One more time!"
10. You spin pencils, brooms, toothbrushes anything you can whenever you can
11. You have mastered putting on show makeup on a moving bus
12. You've practiced at all times in all kind of weather
13. You practice across the floor in the hallways
14. You try to guess what your instructor will say next and are right 80% of the time
15. You have used the drum next to you as your mirror.
16. You envision possible guard shows to songs on the radio
17. You have a ridiculous amount of guard pictures
18. You are proud of your various, mysterious bruises
19. You wake up early in the summer to practice before it gets hot (staying up late counts too)
20. You can come up with one of these lists with no trouble at all
The Sport of the Arts
After the last toss is caught, the last count performed, at the last show of the season, you want to walk off knowing there was nothing you would do differently. Let everyone in the crowd feel the power of not the individuals on the floor but the one guard that captivated their attention from the second they walked out to the second they disappear from view. The show that speaks for itself and leaves everyone thinking no one could possibly do it better. Only then will the essence of color guard be understood by the performers and the audience.
How will you empower this to be your guard?
Give them a reason to watch you. Give them no choice but to remember you.
